It was Science Fair time again. It’s always interesting to see what projects turn up, and just as you can always tell which child had help and which had not, you can also tell what the parents do for a living. This was my general assumption and I’ve always been right. One of the first graders had a parent with a home catering company and the geology project featured rocks that had been made with a melon scoop and the layers of the earth were stacked like a tiramisu. The parents who owned a hobby store helped their child create a scale model of the solar system. The painting on the planets was suitable for framing. I expected great things from the child of the telephone engineer. The student had a great understanding of the concept of engineering as a whole, so the concept was promising. The project was very simple and only used a metal can and several different colored wires. He had done his own work.
